About The Position

Hours: 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM ET, Monday to Friday

Location: Carlsbad, CA

Position Summary

Reporting to the Pharmacy Manager, the Admin Pharmacist is responsible for accurate and efficient prescription filling, clear and complete patient counseling and for being compliant with all State and Federal Pharmacy laws.

Essential Functions

As ADS/USMED Pharmacist:

  • Must always have a copy of current, active state Pharmacist license displayed in lobby.
  • For nonresident PIC's, always provides a copy of current, active Pharmacist license of the non-resident state(s) to be displayed in lobby.
  • Documents all actions and communications with patients, caregivers, coworkers, and prescriber offices into patient accounts, as appropriate.
  • Thoroughly follows all departmental and company policies and procedures and instructions while using their professional judgement.
  • Supervises Pharmacy Technician activities and other ancillary staff, ensuring everyone works professionally and within their job description and license status.
  • For nonresident PIC's, at least twice a year documents reviews of new and changed Pharmacy laws/rules and notifies Chief of Pharmacy when these may affect processes at ADS.
  • Avoids obstruction of a patient obtaining a prescription item that has been legally prescribed for the patient. If the Pharmacy Manager determines that the item may cause harm to the patient, then the prescriber will be contacted for alternative therapy or verify the current therapy will be safe for the patient.
  • Completes all assigned company and department training, tests, reviews, projects, and other tasks in a timely manner and within time constraints.

As Admin Pharmacist:

  • Adheres strictly to all departmental and company policies, procedures, instructions, and updates as documented in Pharmacy Staff meeting minutes.
  • Regularly monitors company emails for updates and ensures compliance.
  • Completes training and reviews of policies and procedures promptly.
  • Provides clear, thorough, and accurate counseling to patients on their prescriptions and:
    • Educates patients to ensure understanding and maximize compliance to therapy.
    • Responds to their adverse reactions or concerns about prescriptions.
    • Responds to any health questions, within the limit of Pharmacist Practice, and referring to the prescriber as appropriate.
  • Cooperates with Admin Technicians to obtain clear, thorough verbal prescriptions and prescription clarifications, while staying compliant with all pharmacy state and federal laws, payer requirements and established company processes.
  • Promptly records all communication with patients, caregivers, or prescriber offices into patient profiles.

When required As Dispensing Pharmacist:

  • Thoroughly reviews prescriptions for authenticity and completeness during dispensing of each item, to comply with all pharmacy state and federal laws, and payer requirements. This is accomplished by:
  • Consistently following the Compliance Guidelines (which are maintained by the Chief-of-Pharmacy) during dispensing;
  • Following updates in Pharmacy Staff meeting minutes;
  • Regularly checking company email for any additional updates, and following them;
  • Completing training and P&P reviews in a timely manner.
  • Reviews and verifies all outgoing shipments of legend medications and devices, syringes, and pen needles to ensure accurate and complete dispensing of items requested by customers, in a timely manner.
  • Supervises the delivery, storage, safekeeping, dispensing and return of legend products, pen needles and syringes.
  • Supervises Pharmacy Technician activities and other ancillary staff, ensuring everyone works professionally and within their job description and license status.
  • Signs the daily pharmacy prescription log.

Other Responsibilities

  • May perform any additional responsibilities or special projects as required.
  • Duties and responsibilities may be subject to change based upon the needs of the department.
Requirements:
  • 3+ years of experience in Pharmacy; retail pharmacy or an accredited place employment preferred
  • Doctor of Pharmacy or Bachelor's of Pharmacy and equivalent experience
  • Valid and unrestricted State Pharmacist License
  • License must be active and clear, subject to verification at any time
  • Intermediate level of MS Office proficiency

  • Candidates must successfully pass a background check.
  • Pharmacy candidates may require drug screening.
  • Candidates must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

Compensation Package

Pay ranges may vary depending on location. The general hourly range for this position is $64 - $68 per hour. Actual compensation depends on education, experience, and relevant skills. In addition, benefits include:
