Position Reports to:: Reports directly to Assistant Superintendent.

Description Main responsibility of this position will be shutting of customers for non-payment. Change out faulty meters and ensure meter is communicating with the AMI network

Essential (primary) Responds to department orders to begin or discontinue water service by hooking up or disconnecting meters.
Investigate meter readings that are out of line to ensure reading is correct.
Diagnose faulty RadioRead meters services. Change out/repair defected apparatuses as required.
Upgrade existing manual read meters to RadioRead.
Disconnect delinquent services making contact with occupant to notify that water has been turned off and delivered information, instructions on what is needed to get it restored.
Install meters and appropriate Radioread equipment in new and existing services as needed, programming to activate.
Conducts on-site inspections of water meters services checking for proper water pressure, leaks and raised pit rings, effects necessary maintenance and repairs as needed.
Receives and investigates customer complaints regarding meter operation, and performs necessary repairs to solve valid complaints.
Maintains a record of all meter inspections, installations, removals and/or replacement, recording location, date, and description of work performed, and install new meters as needed.
Performs preventative maintenance on water meters such as insulating and removal of standing water in the meter pit.
Non-Essential (secondary) Reads meters as needed.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Ability to work overtime as assigned.
Job Requirements High school diploma or combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position.
Knowledge of water meters and ability to perform necessary maintenance and repairs.
Ability to operate various equipment such as cutting torch, boom truck, and small hand tools.
Must be well versed in confined space entry, able to operate fall protection and atmospheric monitoring equipment.
Ability to operate hand-held meter reading devices.
Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle.
Difficulty of Work and Personal Work Relationship Difficulty of Work Incumbent performs majority of duties out of doors, in varying weather conditions, and is periodically exposed to excessive noise, dirt, dust, and vehicle and equipment fumes. Safety precautions must be used at all times to avoid injury to self and others. Incumbent must be able to differentiate different colored electrical wires.
Moderate physical effort is exerted by incumbent in the set up and operation of equipment, including bending, stooping, and movement of extremities necessary to maintain and repair water meters. Moderate physical effort is frequently required for regular periods of time.
Ability to lift residential meter lids weighing approximately 10 pounds and commercial lids weighing 34 to 91 pounds.
Infrequently, ability to reset frames weighing 25 to 100 pounds.
Must be able to kneel and reach down into meter pit to wipe the meter lens, crawl under shrubs, hedges, decks, and so on. Step over low walls or fences. Able to navigate uneven terrain. When performing pit maintenance, ability to shovel, lift, bend, pry, stoop, and pull.
Personal Work Relationships Incumbent maintains frequent contact with department supervisors and associates, along with members of the general public, for a variety of purposes including receiving daily assignments, assuring proper accomplishment of duties and departmental services, and explanation of department policies and procedures.

Employees may elect the High Deductible Insurance plan with the City providing an HSA contribution and if the employee is a non-smoker or participating in the Tobacco Cessation program, the employee only plan is at no cost to the employee.
- Employees and their dependents (ages 3 and up) who are on the City's health insurance may utilize the City Employee Health Clinic.

All new hires to the City for American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) positions will initially start out at Step 1 of the assigned pay grade for the assigned position. Then after a 120 day probation, pay will increase to a minimum of a Step 2 for that position, however based on the new hire's skills, knowledge, abiliites, and experience the pay could be moved to a higher step. 01
