Summary The
Assistant Teacher at Interfaith Early Learning Center assists the Head Teacher in planning and implementing learning experiences that advance the intellectual, emotional, social, and physical development of the children within a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment; and to establish collaborative relationships with the families and other staff members.
Duties 1. Assume responsibility for the health and safety of all children in the program.
2. Assist Head Teacher to plan and teach weekly lesson plans based on an emergent curriculum connected with the CT ELDS.
3. Assist Head Teacher to conduct weekly observations based on CT DOTS and place weekly in child?s portfolio. Collect samples of work and document weekly in child?s individual portfolio.
4. Assist Head Teacher to evaluate each student and discuss progress or challenges with parents daily.
5. Attend family events, staff orientation and staff meetings as required.
6. Fulfill professional development requirements mandated by the Office of Early Childhood OEC) and School Readiness (SR), and Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
7. Be an advocate for children and families.
8. Assist Head Teacher to organize the classroom environment to support children?s socio-emotional development, promote learning through play and promote physical development. Using transition time as opportunities for learning.
9. Promote learning in all areas of the classroom: Block Area; Dramatic Play, Manipulative Area; Literacy center, Computer, Sand and Water Area; Science Area, Art area and woodworking.
10. Follow all policies and procedures regarding abuse and neglect mandated reporting.
11. Keep accurate and clearly written records for CACFP reporting.
12. Promote a team orientated attitude.
13. Maintain a positive rapport with families, fellow staff and children.
14. Inform Head Teacher of any significant issues related to staff, children or facility.
15. Use positive guidance strategies.
16. Promote professionalism and growth and is an exemplary role model.
17. Model relationship-building skills in all interactions. Maintain regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
18. Help to ensure all activities are conducted in compliance of state regulations, School Readiness requirements, NAEYC accreditation standards and Interfaith policies, including proper staff ratios and reporting requirements.
19. Keep rooms clean, orderly and attractive.
20. The essential functions set forth herein contemplate the general duties required to fulfill the Assistant Teacher position; however, they are not a detailed description of all work required. New duties and responsibilities may be required to meet the changing demands of the Interfaith Early Learning Center.
Requirements Minimum age of 21.
HS graduate or Equivalent
Completion of New Employee Orientation which includes Child Abuse Prevention, Sexual Harassment Training, State of CT Mandated Reporter Training, State of CT Childcare Safety Orientation, CPR, First Aid, AED, Medication Administration and EpiPen.
Knowledge of National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) standards, CT Early Learning and Development Standards (CT ELDS), and CT Documentation and Observation for Teaching Systems (CT DOTS).
Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Nice To Haves Certification in CPR and First Aid (Connecticut Childcare)
Has an account in the OEC Registry
Bilingual - English/Spanish/Portuguese
Child Development Associate Certification
Willing to continue education and work toward a CDA or Associates degree in ECE
