Duties Under the direction of the Head Teacher, provides care for children meeting their basic physical, social, emotional and cognitive needs. As part of a team, assist in providing care and implementing a developmentally appropriate program for an assigned age group. The Assistant Teacher reports to the Head Teacher.
- Assist the Head Teacher in planning and conducting an effective child development program. This should be done based on the goals and general curriculum plan of the South Windsor Child Development Center.
- Ensure the safety of children through constant supervision and proper maintenance of equipment.
- Assist in maintenance and environment chores in order to provide a safe and sanitary environment
- Ensure that child care routines are carried out in a manner that is prompt, hygienic, and consistent with the good child development principles. This includes routines related to hand washing, eating, napping and transitioning between activities.
- Assist the Head Teacher in maintaining written records and evaluations on each child and the class as a whole.
- Participate in maintaining NAEYC accreditation status
- Assist the Head Teacher in preparing newsletters and/or classroom bulletins.
- Participating in the training of staff and volunteers. Supervise afternoon staff in conjunction with the Director and/or Site Manager and Head Teacher.
- Assist the Head Teacher in creating and maintaining a pleasant, inviting classroom atmosphere in which children feel comfortable and secure.
- In the absence of the Head Teacher, assume designated responsibilities as assigned.
- Participates in required continuing education programs, staff meetings to further professional growth. Attends South Windsor Child Development Center functions.
- Physically able and willing to interact with children in the indoor and outdoor environment.
- Promotes effective working relationships and works cooperatively as a part of a team to facilitate the center's ability to meet its goals and objectives.
- Performs any and all duties as requested to maintain a safe, professional environment for children, families and staff.
Requirements - Associate degree in Early Childhood or and at least one year teaching in a program for preschool children.
- An associate degree or higher in a related field with at least 12 credits in early childhood education, child development, early childhood special education or elementary education and at least one year experience in a program for preschool children.
- A CDA and at least two years teaching in a program for preschool children.
- Completion of First Aid and CPR courses or willingness to complete required courses.
- Completion of Administration of Medication and Epi-Pen courses or willingness to complete required courses.
