About the Job About the Position The MedWorx group
is a team dedicated to serving research and clinical practice groups through invention, engineering, design, material development,
segmentation, 3D-printing, virtual/augmented reality and fabrication/prototyping. MedWorx is a service provider to University engineering
research groups and to University and M Health Fairview clinicians and clinician researchers. MedWorx student workers play a vital role in
making the resources in the BMDC approachable by creating a welcoming and diverse environment for users of all abilities.
This
position is based on campus. Per UMN policy, work may be done remotely when appropriate and approved by your manager. All UMN employees are
expected to follow applicable public health and safety procedures.
Duties/Responsibilities Function
1 (100%)- Intake requests from MedWorx clients and assess their feasability. Respond to MedWorx client with an estimate in
cost and duration to complete
- Perform a variety of project tasks while tracking hours and material usage. Enter data into MedWorx
tracking spreadsheet.
Qualifications All required qualifications must be documented on application
materials Required Qualifications - Must be available to work at least 10-14 hours per week on an
agreed upon schedule. (MedWorx is a service provider and you may be asked to work more hours per week for activities such as clinical
emergencies.)

Preferred Qualifications - Segmentation (Materialize Mimics and
others)
- Materialize 3-matic
- Autodesk Meshmixer
- 3D-Printing software and hardware (Polyjet, SLS, FDM, Cura, GrabCAD,
Preform)
- CAD (SolidWorks)
- Prototyping and model building experience
- Ability to clearly communicate information in a
timely manner.
Desirable Qualifications - Virtual Reality (C, C++, Python, Unity)
About the
Department The Bakken Medical Devices Center (BMDC), a unit of the Institute for Engineering in Medicine and part of the
College of Science and Engineering and the Medical School, facilitates moving novel medical technologies from ideas to commercialization.
BMDC research and development projects originate from clinical faculty with ideas for a new medical device, or from engineering faculty with
a new technology, or both.
