Job Description

Coordinates the dally operations of Recycling and Zero Waste which includes: training and supervising a student core team of 12 to 20 student staff, and 40+ student extended staff, and a fluctuating number of community service volunteers. Includes assigning and ensuring work order completion; closing work orders in TMA; collection of data for reporting purposes; coordination of shipping of materials to recycling partners; surveying the campus to identify daily, weekly and long-term needs; and payroll processing. Assists in Education, Media, Marketing and Outreach campaigns including event planning and event management. The position is proactive in identifying and creating efficient systems to meet the recycling and zero waste needs of Ohio University.



Job Duties:

  • Operations Management – Leads and/or assists the Recycling Manager in the following: survey’s job sites and identifies campus needs, manages TMA work orders and coordinates needed actions to ensure quality completion of tasks, identifies areas of potential improvement in campus systems while researching and developing efficiencies to increase waste recovery rates. Handles applicable reporting details to courts and judiciaries. Maintains waste stream data for Sustainability Plan tracking, communication with all applicable University, vendor and regional stakeholders. Ordering and maintaining inventory, coordinating the shipping of materials, ensuring safety and cleanliness of the facility. Complies with all laws, University policies, and safety regulations. Coordinates and leads weekend and evening shifts as needed. Knowledge and/or ability to learn Microsoft Office and internal software programs necessary.
  • Staff Management -Leads and/or assists the Recycling Manager in the following: Ensures productivity of staff with broad discretion to prioritize needs, schedule, assign and oversee student staff, community service and volunteers. Trains staff and volunteers including interviewing prospective new hires, evaluating job performance, tracking attendance, coaching and disciplinary action as needed
  • Education, Media, Marketing, and Outreach – Leads and/or assists the Recycling Manager in the following: Event planning and event management, education and outreach campaigns including written and visual media, social media, workshops, orientations, and trainings. Leads or assists in creation and implementation of web based and graphic design materials as needed.
  • Public Relations – Leads and/or assists the Recycling Manager to communicate with customers and administrators to provide quality service, education and information, to identify needs, develop systems and solutions, Leads and/or participates in internal staff, facility management and University department meetings as necessary.
  • Maintenance and vehicle operation – Forklift and truck operation as needed. Coordinates maintenance of vehicles and equipment.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree or vocational or technical school degree
  • A minimum of one year work-related experience
  • Valid driver’s license



  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Pay Rate

The target salary range is $45,837 – $51,377 commensurate with the selected candidate’s education and experience while considering internal equity.
